Our Projects

Turtle Creek Chapter, NSDAR, completes several projects each year to support the goals of the National Society. To find out more about these projects, or to join us, contact our regent today!

Community Classroom

One such project was gathering supplies requested for our community classroom project at Village Christian School; a Therapeutic Education Service Center which serves students with academic, behavioral, and emotional needs.

Donations were gathered for the Village Christian School.

Beedle Station

Members of the Turtle Creek Chapter, NSDAR, along with DAR’s Ohio State Regent, State Vice Regent, and State Southwest District Director, joined with the staff of the Warren County Historical Society on September 18, 2021, to dedicate the new location for the Beedle Station on the southern portion of their property.

Beedle Station was the first settlement in Warren County and consisted of three buildings. Two were lost to time long ago, but the last had been converted into a Victorian home and lived in until the 1970s.

After years of planning and fundraising efforts that included a grant from DAR’s Historic Preservation Committee, the Beedle Station was located on property owned by the Lebanon Correctional Facility, disassembled, relocated to the grounds of the Warren County Historical Society, and reassembled. The Beedle Station will be utilized for historical and educational presentations.

Honor Flight

DAR’s National Day of Service takes place each year on or around October 11, to honor DAR’s founding on October 11, 1890. Not to be deterred by Covid-19 restrictions, Turtle Creek Chapter, NSDAR, decided to serve our veterans by producing 280 thank you notes and cards for the Honor Flight Tri-State. Honor Flight is a non-profit organization that raises funds to fly our veterans to Washington, D.C., to see their memorials. One of the highlights of the trip is the “Mail Call” program when each veteran receives a large envelope filled with various types of “Welcome Home” and “Thank You” cards. Turtle Creek Chapter, NSDAR, collected 280 notes and cards for this program at our September and October meetings. Our cards will be part of the “Mail Call” program for 2022.

National Family Literacy Day

At the request of the Turtle Creek Chapter, NSDAR, the mayor of the City of Lebanon, Ohio, issued a proclamation declaring November 1, 2021, as “National Family Literacy Day.”

The celebration of National Family Literacy Month brings about a great opportunity for families to get back into the tradition of reading as a family.

Earth Day Tree

The Turtle Creek Chapter, NSDAR, dedicated a White Oak Tree on August 8, 2020, in honor of the 50th anniversary of Earth Day. The tree, selected for its anticipated 300-year lifespan, will grace the beginning of a beautiful nature walk situated behind the Lebanon Countryside YMCA. The YMCA’s CEO, Executive Director of Programs, and Volunteer Arborist joined members of the chapter in a solemn dedication ending with a reading of a poem highlighting the majesty of the tree.

Quilting

Quiltmaking has been around since the 12th century. Colonial Americans and those during the American Revolutionary War period often did quilting as an exercise to display the fine needlework of the artisan who crafted the quilt. One of our members lovingly designed and hand/machine stitched this beautiful queen-size quilt.

Helping the Homeless

The holiday season is especially tough on families who have become homeless. We have been able to adopt a family for the holidays through Family Promise of Warren County; previously known as Interfaith Hospitality Network of Warren County. Family Promise offers many services for the homeless in our community to allow them to get back on their feet.
